Symptom
The Intel X520 10 gigabit (Gb) Ethernet adapter's option ROM is disabled by default and therefore the adapter is not seen in UEFI and not available as a Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE) resource.
Affected configurations
The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM options:
- Intel X520 Dual-Port 10GbE SFP+ Embedded Adapter for IBM System x, option 49Y7980, any CRU
- Intel X520-DA2 Dual-Port 10 GbE SFP+ Adapter for IBM System x, option 49Y7960, any CRU
This tip is not system specific.

Workaround
The following steps will enable the option ROMs on the Intel adapters:
- Create the ISO for the Intel software to a CD.
- Open the Intel Software.
- Open the 'Start_UEFI_ISO' folder.
3. Open the 'Start_UEFI_ISO' folder -> 3. Open the 'Boot_UEFI_ISO' folder
Shell>startutil64e.efi -all -FE -> Shell>bootutil64e.efi -all -FE ->
- Copy 'efi_boot_update.iso' to a Hard Disk Drive (HDD).
- Burn 'efi_boot_update.iso' to a CD.
- Insert the 'efi_boot_update' CD into the server with the Intel NICs.
- Start to the 'efi_boot_update' CD.
- Wait till the 'Shell>' prompt appears.
- At the 'Shell>' prompt enter:
Shell>startutil64e.efi -all -FE - Press Enter.
- After the procedure finishes, type 'exit.'
- Restart the server.
- Press F1 to enter UEFI.
- In UEFI, go to System Settings --> Network to see the adapters.
If the UEFI 'efi_boot_update' CD does not start, performing the following should allow the CD to start:
- Restore UEFI defaults.
- Load the CD and follow the instructions Product Engineering (PE) provided previously.
